- Total of 36 Graduates…Commit to Promoting Peace in Their Communities
- Building a Stronger Peace Network Across South America; Activities Continue Through the Third Cohort of Peace Education
The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2, led by Director Seo Yeon Lee, successfully held the 2026 South America Women’s Peace Education Completion Ceremony online on May 29 (local time in Colombia), celebrating the completion of 36 participants.
The ceremony was organized to recognize and encourage women who completed the Women’s Peace Education program and to support their future roles as peace leaders dedicated to spreading the values of peace throughout their communities.
During the event, participants reflected on their educational journey, revisited the meaning of peace, and strengthened their commitment to promoting a culture of peace at the local level.
Speaking on behalf of the second cohort graduates, Mariluz Usme Buitrago emphasized the practical nature of peace, stating, “Peace is not a distant dream but a daily choice. Through this peace education program, I have gained valuable knowledge and experiences that will help me contribute to peacebuilding and promote the values of respect and coexistence.”
The instructors also delivered congratulatory messages, highlighting the significance of peace education and encouraging graduates to become active agents of peace in their daily lives and communities.
Several graduates have already begun participating as peace lecturers and community activists, continuing their involvement through follow-up educational programs and peace culture initiatives. Building on these efforts, IWPG Global Region 2 is expanding its peace network throughout South America and promoting the establishment of a sustainable culture of peace in the region.
Looking ahead, the organization plans to strengthen the foundation for peace activities through peace instructor training programs, appointments of peace committee leaders, and the development of regional cooperation systems. These initiatives aim to further expand collaborative networks dedicated to advancing peace across South America.
IWPG is an international NGO registered with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC), and South Korea’s Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. The organization works toward achieving world peace through a global network of 115 branches in 123 countries and over 900 partner organizations across 68 countries.
